Hello,
I've been researching and looking into reef aquarium stuff for about a year and a half, and my tank is just about 4 months old. The only two fish that I knew I always wanted, as simple as they may seem, are clownfish and a diamond watchman goby. I find the way the goby shifts sand and such to be so interesting! I currently have 2 clowns and a cleaner shrimp. I really want a diamond goby next, and my 29g tank is only slightly smaller than the recommended size by Live Aquaria. So I was wondering, as someone who tends to overfeed, do you think it would be alright for my to get the diamond goby?

I've heard mixed things, which all seem to boil down to that the diamond gobies do bad in smaller tanks because there isn't enough food. But since I tend to overfeed, and could even do that more so once one is added, would that make it alright? I was just curious and was wondering if anyone who had/s one in a tank that's 30g or lower could share their experiences.

Thank you!

They are fascinating fish to watch. I can't speak personally to having one in a tank that size, but I can tell you from experience to be sure to have a full hood or mesh cover on it. They are notorious escape artists. Mine jumped out through a 1/2 inch gap between my lid and the hang on filter.

I have one in my 220. I watched him eat at my LFS before I bought him. He was then quarantined in a 29 cube for two months. While he was in that tank, he ate frozen food (mysis, chopped squid and LRS). Since he's been in the 220, he now even eats pellets. I think you should be ok as long as you make sure he eats food at the LFS. I don't know if I'd take a chance buying on line.

I love gobies. I have a orange spot goby and he is sooo entertaining. He has chose his own little house and nobody gets in there. A nassarius snail paid a little visit and he picked him up and dumped him at the other end of the tank. Very funny.
I can see why you want one

Wow, yeah I'll definitely get a top if I get one

Ok, good idea, thanks for the tip. I think my LFS usually has one around.

As long as you do not mind the tunnels and your rocks sits on the bottom glass, you should be fine.
They eat frozen very well and they like having company as in a pair. A 29 seems small for two but when I had them in my tank where one went the other was always was next to his side and in the same hole.
