As the title says, I have a diamond watchman goby, that I think is dying. Well, I can’t possibly see how he would survive at this point.

He was fine yesterday, eats well. Today this.
Temp is 79
Salinity is 32 PPT. Working to bring it up.
Nitrate is 8.9

Only think I’ve changed or done is normal water changes 10% every other week,
Changed some activated carbon a few days ago.

I also have a bengaii cardinal that stopped eating a few days ago and I’ve been watching out of concern. He stopped eating about the same time I changed the activated carbon. But he’s still swimming.

I have a pair of clowns that are acting normal.

And ideas? Is he doomed like he looks?

Sorry I can figure out how to post a video. He’s mostly upside down and spins slowly in a circle. He still tries to soft the sand sometimes.

To me it looks like an air bladder issue, especially with the tail elevated off the sand bottom.

Do you have a hard lid?

Upload video to YouTube and post a link here is your best bet.

It may have tried to jump and broke it's spine when it hit the lid.

I would euthanize. It's locked in that position and the only movement is from it's mouth against the sand.

Whoa that’s crazy. Is that relatively common? I’ve heard they can be jumpers.

DWG's are notorious jumpers.

In regards to the Bengaii all of a sudden not eating - any ideas? We’ve had him for several months as well. He will sometimes suck some food into its mouth but immediately spit it out.

I’m feeding frozen with a little bit of garlic. Same food he loved just a few days ago.

Any recent livestock additions to the tank?

Nothing new, no new livestock, rocks, nothing at all. Just changed out the activated carbon and somehow the Bengaii quit eating and apparently the DWG got jumpy.

Last thing I added were some hermit crabs about 6-8 weeks ago due to algae outbreak

He didn’t make it. Quit moving, checked on him and he had stopped breathing.

Always bums me out to lose a fish. Hoping my Bengaii Cardinal survives whatever he has going on.

Thanks for the info above. Is there a different sand sifter, that’s reef safe, hardy and good for someone learning?

While the goby might be dying from a strike injury, the Bangaii not eating at the same time is pretty suspicious. Is the cardinal breathing fast? Do you know if it is captive raised or wild caught? How long have you had the cardinal?

Jay

Did you put your hands i. Tank without cleaning off first. Might be a pollutant in water you cant test for. Hand lotion or soap or something?

I’ve had the cardinal for about 6 months, it’s not breathing fast. When the lights are dimming it comes out more and swims around in the middle of the tank. When the lights are brighter he is in the bottom corner. I haven’t changed light settings.

I believe it is captive raised
