Diamond Watchman Goby sandstorm

Are the corals he's dumping sand in on the sandbed or close to it?

They're on a piece of rock on the sand...

They are funny fish. I like to imagine they're being forced to eat sand and they hate their fate... eating sand 24/7. Here's a Timelapse I took

This is a video I took of my previous tank with a pair of seahorses I named Clarice and Hannibal, but my diamond Goby stole the show [emoji4]

Considering getting this fish but I'm reading mixed reviews on whether the cloudiness it causes while sniffing the sand will subside over time. If you've own one let me know what kind of sand you had and if this cloudiness went away. I have a 90g tank with Fiji pink sand.

FYI
I'm aware they're jumpers, like to spit sand on corals nearby, burrow under rocks which can cause them to topple over,
Mine aye mysis while in QAT.It eats with other fish now. No prob. Little cloudy till had been around the tank once. Then all clear.

I had a large diamond goby in my 75 to help keep the sand clean. He made it look like there was always stuff floating in the water. I got tired of the water not looking clear and returned him after a month. My sand is more fine then what I am seeing people use in these videos, I was using Fiji pink.

When I wanted to get my sand clean I called around to a few LFS and they all suggested conchs. I asked about the diamond goby and they all advised against it, lol

I saw you thread while researching this fish. How long did you have him for? How strong was your flow in your tank? How big was your tank?

The tank was a 75 gallon with strong flow, had a gyre on each side of the tank. When I was researching people would say over a week or two the sand storm would go away. I used filter socks on hoping it would filter out. After a month it never went away so it went back to the store. I would try the diamond goby again if I didn't have Fiji pink sand.

It definitely kept my sand clean but then the water was not clear.:( Also if you decide to get one, make sure your rock is on the bottom glass because it will dig under them and they could fall.

it is an excellent addition to every tank, your sand will be perfectly clean but the only huge downside in my opinion, is that you will not be able to put any corals on the sand bed he will cover it constantly with sand so you will have to put every coral on the rocks

I actually prefer keeping the sand bed clear of corals. Just a personal preference in enjoying the sight white sand

Did you decide if you were going to pick one up? I was talking to my wife tonight about this thread and told her what I said about them. Now she wants me to get another because she thought they looked cool, lol.

Yeah I did. I'm going to visit my LFS this today.

The sand in my tank is like sugar, and he does create a sandstorm, and the sand will get all over my corals so I have to blow them off alot. I think the corals get irritated. My yellow Fiji leather is crabby. I am in the process of slowly switching out my sand, just because I don't want to get rid of him. He likes to excavate and make caves under the rocks, so be sure the rock structure is strong, but keeps the sand very clean.
He also is eating frozen food and pellets, so he gets plenty of food.
He is fun to watch and one of my favorites. I personally would recommend one.
When I purchased mine, I had the LFS put some food in there to see if he was eating and he was eating the frozen blend. And he has been eating it ever since. He is a pig.

How is the goby working out for you? My wife talked me into getting another and what a mistake....

He's in QT. Doing well. You have him in your DT already?

Yes, I don't qt. I think this goby makes more of a mess than the first one I had.

Lol. Mine doesn't seem to kick up much mess. He goes through the sand but nothing really floats around. He'll go in my DT in about 3 weeks

The size of your sand helps a ton. I have Fiji pink which is way smaller than you have. I have been changing my filter socks 3 times a day and it still looks super cloudy.

One of my favorites.

Luck of the draw on whether you get one that stays on the sand, or takes sand up and makes it rain! I find the diamonds don't do this nearly as much as the yellow-head sleepers. Had to remove a yellow-head due to this.
