In my tank I had my bristletooth tomini tang die from what I think was fin rot or something related about a week ago and today I came home to find my diamond watchman goby dead.

I tested the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph and all came out fine. I cannot find a cause on why the Goby suddenly died as he was showing no symptoms of illness yesterday.

How long have you had them for? What size and type of tank? How is your tank being oxygenated?
Whenever 2 fish die in close succession disease is a strong possibility. What's your QT/acclimation protocol? Any visible symptoms or pics?

The goby was in there for probably 6-8 months, the tang for about two years. The tank is 55 gallons with some gsp coral in it. We oxygenate the tank through a protein skimmer, two pumps, and a refugium. I have no pictures but the tang had white sores on its face with torn fins so I think it was some sort of bacterial infection. The goby showed no symptoms of being sick until today. It was discolored when I found it.

Unfortunately we don't have a QT tank which probably was a bad decision but the tang was healthy and suddenly got sick without anything new being introduced to the tank.

Sorry for your losses :( Nothing new added? Corals, sand, plants, fresh fish food like clams, mussels, etc.?

If nothing new was added as mentioned above, this could be bacterial infection.

Agree. Could also have been flukes eating at the fins causing the infection, which led to the death of both.

Any remaining tankmates may need to be freshwater dipped in a dark bucket to look for sesame seeds (flukes).

Sorry for your losses!
