Hey all! 5 month old tank with one DBG. He does a great job but only hits about 60% of the sand on the left side. He hangs out on the right but there are still diatoms on the sand and none where he frequents. The LFS has a Bella Goby that I am looking at. I have been wanting one for a while. Would they be fine together? Thanks!

I haven’t put two sand sifters together, but I have a diamond in a 210g with a yellow watchman, and a blue spotted with a yellow watchman in a 110g. So there is a good chance they could be ok. Some would also depend on wether there is enough rock work, for them to have separate dens.

I wouldn’t do 2 in a 150G without knowing the sandbed depth. These are gobies that starve in tanks without a deep and mature enough sand bed. In a 5 month old tank you’re pushing it with one, let alone 2.

Thanks. Definitely the info I needed. I plan to add more sand. The bed is about 2 inches with the exception of what the DBG moves around. He also eats everything I put in the tank, live and pellets.

IMO 2” is probably deep enough. But add more if you want to for looks. Part of them not starving is feeding enough. They will eat the left over frozen out of the sand. Mine eat when I feed as well. I mostly feed frozen a mix of brine, spirulina brine and mysis.

I heavily stick my tanks, and feed accordingly.

I would add more of a sandbed as although 2 inches can be deep enough the live food won’t be able to replenish itself fast enough. I personally recommend 4-5 inches of sandbed for long term success, frozen food just doesn’t give them the nutrients they need and even if it did they’d need to be fed 4-5x a day as these are essentially larger dragonets. They don’t stop feeding in the day.
