Hey all, im new to reef tanks. Cycled my tank for 2.5 months. Was getting greenhair algae so i assumed the tank had pretty much finished cycling. then put a clownfish and blue tang in. Fish are going great...has been a month or so and fish very healthy. Recently a diatom bloom has been around a week or two. Is this a sign that my tank hadnt finished cycling? Is there anything i should be doing in terms of extra maintenance or will it just go away after a while? I know scraping it off only makes it move to other sections in the tank.

Any info would be great...thanks

Diatoms are normal for a newly established tank and will go away once your tank gets older. Do you have a good CUC working in the tank right now? I think a good CUC and daily glass scrubbing with a mag float will help with the "ugly stage".

I expected it is something I just have to be patient with and it will go. Currently i have some turbo snails and a few little hermits. I'm going to put some more turbo snails in to assist with clean up.
