Ok my tank has been up for about 1 month and 2 weeks. Last week i started my diatom bloom but here it is a week later and it is already going away on its own. No clean up crew nothing tank has no livestock. Also with lights on for 8 hrs. Is this normal? Wondering if its all part of the cycle. I just here people having tough time with getting rid of algae this just seems like it is going to easy.

Diatoms eat out silicates in the water, if theres no silicates theres no diatoms. Every tank will vary on how long they stick around.

That means you getting closer to be fully cycled.

Wanted some CUC but they will have nothing to eat. Tank being empty is driving the kids crazy lol. They are begging for at least 1 hermit crab and some snails so they can have something to look at. But now that the diatoms are going away on their own that idea may be scrapped. My first fish still has 2 weeks in QT.

Get Trochus snails, they're self correcting if they fall on their back, they eat diatoms, pretty, fast, fun to watch.

Feed some pellet food to the CUC and it helps with the final stages of the cycle.
