I have had my reef tank up and running now for 5 months. 70 gallon red sea max e-260. Salinity 1.025 Ph- 8, nitrites 0, nitrates 0. I have two bullet hole clowns, red fire fish, peppermint shrimp, cleaner shrimp, 6 turbo snails that have been in since the begging. I recently added RBTA, Flame angles, and one lyretail anthia over a weeks time. I was wondering if the increased bioload to fast could induce a diatom outbreak in the tank ? I am used to adding slowly and i think i got a little carried away but unsure. Thanks in advanced guys !

No the addition of fish generally won't cause it. Do you use RODI water?

No Diatoms feed on silicates. They are in the sand and rocks in an aquarium. Once they consume them they go away. What you might get is increased ammonia, nitrite then nitrate. This could cause an increase in algae. Mostly from more food and waste if you increased the amount of feed.

Alright so its just play the patience game and deal with the ugly for now. I did increase the feeding a little bit so this could very well be the cause. Thank you !
