Diatom on GPS and Zoa

Hi all,

I found that there are some diatoms glowing on the GPS and zoa frags in my new established tank. Whenever I use the paint brush to brush away the diatom, the GPS needs at least 3 days to reopen again (which is not open a lot ).
Should I get the diatom away by using a paint brush (esp. the GPS)?

Could these be dinoflagellates?

Turkey baster to blow them clean works better than a brush and won't irritate the Coral as badly.

Looks pretty dark to be dinos. How old is the tank?

If you can grow pods, they will eat diatoms or dinos.

Any ways to grow pods? I have recently reinstalled my upflow algae scrubber (UAS) back to this new tank. Does it help?

2 months only. Part from the 2 frags, I only got 1 chromis, 1 orange spot goby and 1 fire goby inside this 100L tank.

I meant looks to dark to be diatoms. Did you already have diatoms after your cycle?

+1 Turkey baster. I wouldn't brush it.

More importantly though you have a chemistry issue with the tank that needs to be addressed, that's the root of the issues. Is it possible the tank isn't yet done cycling?

They may live in an algae scrubber, but do not let the scrubber bottom out your phosphates or nitrates.

Water changes . Make sure your water is clean before you just go putting it in your tank . I would recommend blowing as much of it off as you can . Clean your sand and if that doesn’t help after a couple weeks look to additives that fight it . This isn’t diatoms btw this is dinoflagellates
