My tank had a large Diatom outbreak which I know is part of the process and actually a good sign.
Its been about 17 days now, I didn't bother scrubbing anything off, just wanted it all to go away on its own.

My Parameters:

ph: 8.2
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10ppm
Salinity: 1.024-1.025 (Working on keeping it stable)

My concern is some of the brown diatoms are now turning to green Algae, and some of the sand bed is also housing the green Algae, is that an issue? Should I manually scrub them off?
I want to do water changes but I am currently using tap water, would it be better to just leave everything as is or would new water even if it is tap be more beneficial?
Ordered the SpectraPure RODI on black Friday (Nov 29) still waiting for them to finally replace the defective one, absolutely ridiculous!

Side Question: Is 10ppm Nitrate that harmful to coral, anemone and invertebrates? This tank contains Coral and a bubble tip anemone and they seem to be doing amazing, like a very substantial difference from when I first got them. It's a long story why there are already organisms in the tank, can be found on my build page, but there wasn't much choice.

Thanks!

No harm removing the algae. Its growing from the nitrate and lighting. Its a battle that never stops. Id suggest a clean up crew. 10ppm no3 wont harm your anemone.

Yeah might reduce the light by an hour. They are currently running for 10 hours.
May need to invest in more clean up crabs.

So just to confirm with SW you actually want 0 nitrates?
Coming from FW, that's different, my planted tank was at a steady 30ppm.

Thanks for the information

No you don't want 0 nitrates if you are keeping photosynthetic organisms. They need some nitrate and phosphate in the water. I try to maintain 3-5 ppm nitrate and .02 ppm phosphate minimum. Others keep more or a little less. More important is to try and keep it stable.

From what ive been reading you want to have some no3 yes. If your no3 gets too low coral can get nitrogen from food. But thats if they can.
