Tank has been up and running around a year now, rodi is still coming out at 0.
I have just got new lights a few weeks ago but the diatoms are only showing up in the sand.
When I first got them it was all over the glass as well. Is it normal for this to happen with the new lights and will it eventually go away as my lights are not even turned up to high at the moment.
I have two hydra 26s

I’ll call it this way: if you reach in and grab sand and drop it now, a massive cloud of fuel for invaders + invaders erupts across the whole tank

(invaders is handy catch all pending ID, our system doesn’t care about the actual ID it cares about making cloudless sand)

If you reverse that, make the bed cloudless like a snow globe, no invader. You might have to topically lightly siphon out a few recurring mats for having waited as long with fuel in the bed (detritus from a year inside a display tank w fish) but without that golden fuel, they’ll all die soon enough. Depending on full tank pic details your rocks might need to be de clouded as well

This gentleman= not invaded

The toddler in the background (plus the sand rinse thread) is the real way to tell if rinsing your sandbed twenty times is cool or not. If polled + candy, toddler votes mighty cool, I can hear it.

Share some pics and check your nutrients compared before the switch.

That invasion doesn’t look bad at all. Has it sat there most of the time or have you been removing it then it comes back?

There's a big running thread from Blusops here called how I keep my bed clean, they stick stir it regularly, sometimes daily and it has a great chance of guiding that out in time for sure cuz that's low level invasion. If you want to blast clean the sand that's likely to work well too, either way is fine that's more nuisance level but not about to blanket or kill anything

There's some sort of lucky grazer to be had that would make quick work of the low level mass but that's a guessing game

I think I've read some of that thread before. I actually siphon my sand every now and again
My guess is that it's because of the new lights. So they might go away/get eaten if you just have some patience:)

I second this.
Just let it be.
Having diatoms is healthy sign, it’s there cause you have other stuff in your water that you don’t want, in most cases diatom bloom on silicates.
Even me by time I have a little patch and if I do I just say “Hello you Diatom, just do your thing as when you’re done with it you will again disappear on your own”

A year tho

I like finality, let's burn this rascal down.
