I have a relatively new tank that is suffering from a diatom outbreak. Probably from silicates. I am running Phosguard to try to reduce the nutrients and have vacuumed the sandbed to remove a lot of it. But my rocks are covered in this brown mess and it does not easily remove manually. I hate it. Has anyone had success removing diatoms with a 35% Hydrogen Peroxide syringe. Or is there a better method?

If it is early in the tank’s life diatoms are expected. They usually go away as the tank matures, but adding some snails is a great natural way to remove them.

Welcome to the R2R!

EDIT: I would not add many chemicals early in a tank’s life. Let it mature and be patient.
