Am 3 weeks into cycling. Ammonia has just peaked to 2ppm after going through 4 raw shrimp and some ghost feeding.
Starting to see brown algae on the rocks and the sand. It's spreading on the surface of Marco Rocks first and then making its way into the joints of thin glue and aragonite sand which makes me think maybe phosphates leaching from Marco is the cause. They were only rinsed with RO water before cycle started.
Its also showing up stronger on the rocks closest to front of aquarium which makes me think ambient lighting might be high in the living room.
Haven't been running any lights. Just got my Aquatic Life t5 hybrid so have it setup just to see the lighting/colour.
Am yet to see any Nitrite or Nitrates show up on test kits.
Used live sand and dosed a bottle of Microbactor 7 over the first 2 weeks.
Definitely diatoms?

This growth means your cycle is now done, plus you are twice over the duration time listed on the bottle bac, nice cycle.

visual pigmented growths we can see always come after the basal filter layer is complete and not before. Remove all shrimp replace with some zoanthids and candy corals, fine starters.

Thanks man! I spent the last week thinking my cycle was stuck, but your reply here and comments on everyone's threads who think their cycle is stuck has made me see I am not! 100% water change in the works. I'm confident now I will be cycled. Thanks
