s it normal to have a diatom bloom despite using colony? Have never usesd it before.

I expected a cycle of sorts anyway - testing water again this evening so will post results although only have a Hagen test kit so not the most accurate :(

Tank is 275l, running for just over a week. New sand and reef rock ( suspecting the reef rok is leeching silicates? ), colony used to prepare tank.

Stock is 2 small clowns, 2 small chromis, 1 algae blenny.

CUC is 7 turbo snails, 10 nassarus snails, several various hermit crabs and a conch ( I shall be getting more cuc tomorrow for sure )

Am already considering adding a reactor to the sump - skimmer only been turned on today after the colony was used, water change can be done tomorrow if advised.

Been such a long time out of the game I feel like I have forgotten everything :( xx

On a new tank you're going to have all kinds of blooms in the coming months. Perfectly normal of a new and maturing tank :)

I don't mind the blooms just didn't know had I done somehing wrong with the colony as didn't know what to expect with it :D

I am keeping a keen eye on my corals in there and have a soft toothbrush to hand should I need to clean anything up. Have alrady added slightly more flow to the upper part of tank xx
