you have a skip cycle reef, zero wait. the bottle bac added was not needed, post a pic of your rock.

matured reefs (the rock you used) produce diatoms routinely and support them in balance. we only cycle dry rocks added, not live rocks, we paid extra for them to skip cycle.

need pics for a live rock study thread though. when I read your title of the thread I knew it was cycled before opening, because only sources of live import produce diatoms as biocastings within a few days.

dry systems won't do that.

So the thought on no lights is let the microfauna populate the rock out competing the algae. This can help eliminate the ugly phase. Bulk Reef Supply did a video on the four month cycle. It’s a good watch and can give you some ideas.

that's only because web nerds get mad at what lfs do four states away. any lfs in the country would've done the same thing, they do not practice updated cycling science, they honestly believed you needed the bottle bac just because new glass surrounded the rock.
