Diatoms or hair?

I just beat Ostreopsis in my 3 month old tank started with dry rock. My phosphate and nitrate were undetectable since the start and then they showed up. I beat them by doing the following...

1. Dosed and maintained PO4 to 0.1ppm and nitrate to 10ppm
2. Turned off the skimmer
3. Stopped water changes(I believe they can feed on trace elements added thru water changes)
4. Installed a UV
5. 48 hour blackout

Ostreopsis usually enter the water column at night, this is why UV is effective against them. I had some stubborn ones that would not leave my rocks and sand during the night using my regular lighting schedule. I have read of some other people that had this same problem with Ostreopsis. That is why I also did the blackout. After about 24 hours of darkness they all appeared to enter the water column, after 48 hours I turned my lights back on at a low intensity for a couple of hours a day for the first couple days after. Over about a week I slowly ramped my lights back up to the normal intensity and duration and I haven't seen them since.
Think I could siphon some out through a gym sock and return the water or nah?

I doubt the sock is fine enough to catch much, you could give it a try, maybe if they stay clumped together you could get some. It is recommended to use at least a 10 micron filter sock.

Started UV last night using green machine.

Im having the same problem and its slowly getting better, whats working for me is i use a 1 micron sock on my sump and then proceed to scrap as much of the dinos as i can with a toothbrush and turkey baster ( they on the rocks too ao i siphon the sandbed down to the sump where the sock is) and keeping nutrients up. I didnt mess with the light anymore as i already did a 3 day blackout and lost some corals due to it and didnt work too well for my dinos. Bubble scrubbing really helps too right after you clean the rocks and sand to keep all the crap suspended.

Appears to still be there in small amounts after UV for a week. Still dosing h2o2 and bactra7 daily. Other algae growing in tank and fuge as well.

Now that you have a UV I would make it permanent and run 24/7

I may. The uv light setup is in my tank and kinda unsightly. I’ll prob move it around but will be using it more than not.

Hard to tell for sure from the pics and vids but they look like Ostreopsis Dinoflagellates to me. Do they kinda come to a point on one side and seem to spin around an anchor point? Check out this video...
Think these are back

Ramping up UV daily and h2o2 at night, bacter7 in the mornings...guess I can’t use this rock to seed my new tank yet?

Patches of it...annihilating green hair algae led to less competition for them...gone at night heat during the day
