Diatoms persistent...

So have a UV sterilizer on order. Will do a 3 day blackout and dose peroxide 2ml per day for my 20 gallon.

Note: Im covering the tank and a part fell down and was exposed to the sunlight. In this one corner that was exposed, all the algae on the glass moved over to this area. Does this sound like dinos? I will check on microscope tomorrow at work but was fascinated that it all moved to the one corner.

More typical for Dino’s. I did tank blackout before. Not successful for me, but then again there are different strains. Lost one SPS as I involuntarily isolated the tank and temperature rose. Outside of this no negative effects. Last blackout was with aluminum foil that worked great.

Yea I’m hoping the blackout combined with UV sterilizer and peroxide will work well together.

OK all DONT judge my lack of skills here are pics and videos! Not sure if my phone can upload the videos but I’ll try.. idk how to upload the videos right from my phone! They spin around super fast in a spiral...not anchored to one point. Also see them speed across the field of view super fast...idk if these videos are showing up I’m struggling. Not pointed more rounded with a divot in the “mouth” area.

The pics are good. That’s Dino’s. Next step (as I am too stupid) to maybe post for Dino ID under separate threat. Real smart people out there.

So with your nitrate and phosphate you chaeto grows like crazy. If not, what test do you use for nitrate? (Ihave been happy with Salifert. ). Any chance you can get a second reading?

I had to reboot due to Dinos and this time I bout live rock from Florida. I tried to kill them for over a year. I know everyone says peroxide, but it kills everything in the tank including all good bacteria and biodiversity. Phyto helps, UV helps and dirty up your water with nitrate and phosphate. I got real close to stopping them with Hair algae to out compete alon with pods, but when I cleaned up my act they returned. Blackouts work temporarily. I wish I had an answer for you. Nobel prize for the one who gets it right. I had Procentrum, Ostreopsis, and amphidium. Bleached everything and I'm starting fresh with live rock I cycled from Gulf Live Rock. Good luck my friend
