Hey there!

My Tank is getting hit with some diatoms! looks like my acan has been mildly coated as well..(More orange looking than usual)

What do; let it ride out? I do have an emerald crab in there already.

I had my protein skimmer off for 3 day, went on vacation and look what happened lol

Blow it off the acan and vaccum the sand bed

Not seeing any cleaner crew. Now would be a good time to add a few snails:
Astrea -3
Cerith -3
Turbo - 4
Nassarius - 4
6-8 blue leg hermit crabs

Welcome to a newish reef. As you are using RODI, just give it 6-9 months for the diatoms to exhaust themselves. A small diamond goby can assist in keeping up appearances but diatoms are a natural part of the biome maturity process.

Thank You!

Do these req. quarantine?

Recommended vendor?

When they die should be seeking and removing or just let the emerald crab eat?

I know some snails overpopulate do these req. brackish water to breed?

Also: Trochus snails... they'll stay on the rocks and glass and don't do much on the sand but they will take care of business.

QT - No
Most LFS have them otherwise places like algaeBarn.com
Emeralds should it eat If they die. Be sure to acclimate them well
No on Brackish. Its the nerite that usually require brackish water.
