Hi I’m fairly new to this hobby and was wondering if diatoms only appear in a fully cycled tank? Or can they appear if the tank has not been cycled? I would love to know the requirements needed for this algae to grow, thanks!

I had my tank running for 6 months and had a diatom bloom after it cycled. My biggest issue was my RODI system wasnt set up right and I wasnt getting the right TDS. So I had silicates going into the tank and the diatoms were using it to reproduce.
