yeah, mine is playing up too atm, my parameters at in line too.

You're not bothering anyone...

It's most likely silicates that are firing up your diatoms.

Once the silicates have been burned off the diatoms will recede.

Would it help to shut off all light to the tank

Clean up crew... Trochus snails for the rocks, Blue legged hermits and a fighting conch for the sand... worked for me.

It would be a cover-up and most likely your diatoms would come back.

They will burn out if it is diatoms.

Mine went away then came back with a vengeance. I researched and went to my LFS and grabbed 7 Trochus snails. In 2 days my red rocks were like new. Now they're breeding in there and I have like 100 of them. I've been giving them away and more keep coming. Apparently my tank is very healthy.

you have a way to deep clean the system, kick the diatoms right out like the loafers they are.

Yes... rocks were covered with diatoms

Sorry still confused, do you mean the diatoms were red or the rocks are red but you couldn’t see them because of diatoms?

I mean the diatoms were covering the rocks turning them a brownish/rusty/red color... when the trochus were done the rocks were almost white again

That doesn’t look bad at all...expect your tank to look a lot worse than that in the coming weeks.

nope mate, it’s hard to see the nice clean sand and rocks get that first bit of green algae but it’s all part of it, probably makes the tank stronger for it, just remember it’ll go back to looking good if you carry on with your standard maintenance.
