I switched over tanks a few weeks ago, and ditched all the old san for new sand. Everything is doing good and has great color. I have what i think is diatoms covering alot of the rock and sand. Iknow that if it is diatoms it will go away on its own
. It is slimy and comes off of the rocks if you fit it really good with a powerhead. It doesnt get the bubbles in it dino's
what do you think? diatoms?

I would say Yes, I hate new sand for this reason. It goes from diatoms to cyano and just when you think it'll never go away, its gone. I swear its something leaching from the sand. I cant get this last batch to clear up for nothing. What kind of sand did you use?

i used aragamax sand. It is starting to tone down a little bit. after the first few days they would have strings coming off the rocks like 12 " long. I have had to realy keep up with blowing them off all the coral

I had the same issue and a few big water changes, a 3 day blackout, and running seachem phosguard seemed to help alot. I thought it was due to silicates in the new sand.

i believe the silicates are fueling the diatoms. and it seems like after they consume the silicates they will slowly dwindle away
