So I have a hob refugium. I had a 1/2in layer of crud on the bottom. I decided to clean it out. So I pulled out a 5g aquarium. Filled it with some fresh saltwater. And poured all the crap into the tank so I could shake the de ree of the algae and put it back in the fuge.

However I woke up this mourning. The 5g is literally red. Curious if this algae should be tossed?

Use activated carbon and provide extra circulation. I suspect you created a type of algae/bacteria bloom, aka RED TIDE.

Update. I definitely caused a red tide. Everything in that tank is now dead. Even the bristle worms . I’m just going to flush it. Just gotta figure out a safe way to dump it. It currently has a trash bag over it to prevent toxins getting in the air.

I’ll have to grab some new algae from a buddy, since that was all my algaein that fuge.
