Did I dial in my pump abs overflow correctly?

This is a 29gal DT with a 20long sump below it. I have a fiji overflow box rated at 400 gph and a DC pump. I have the pump at about half power and the gate valve on the siphons maybe 1/4-1/2 shut. I used a piece of foam and airline to quiet down the overflow box and then used the gate valve to quite down the splash in the sump. Everything seems to be quiet and stable now but am I restricting flow too much or doing something wrong?

I am not an expert and would not default to what I am about to say.

If it were me I would increase the flow into the tank and increase the water in the overflow. A higher water level will reduce the noise as it eliminates the crashing water sound into the overflow.

If you try this i would monitor it closely when making the changes to avoid overflow from the tank.

So should i open up the gate valve all the way and increase the pump until it evens out? And how do I know it is evened out?

Like I said earlier I ma no expert in this.

If it was me I would raise the return pump strength to raise the overflow level (looks low to me). I would then open the gate valve a little at a time and repeat until I had the flow I was looking for. If you think the flow is low and you can adjust it then go for it.

Also to stop the crashing sound in the sump you can extend that pipe under the water level, and that should help.
