Did I just nuke my tank :(

Well I wasn’t paying attention because I don’t normally have this issue.

Through a new filter sock in, and you guessed it, skimmer went nuts
Of course it was nearly full, and got a nice 1/2 cup or so of gross skimmate in my tank.

Fortunately I caught it after only a few seconds

I have a rather expensive tang in the tank. Is he going to make it? Never made this mistake before...

Got the skimmer shut down and cleaned it
Out and re installed, skimming again now

@mta_morrow is absolutely right, you're fine. He missed one crucial point though... You have to eat a large, bloody steak whilst watching the Chuck Norris movie. Or else he'll come for you, and then your fish tank will be the least of your worries.

Agree with others, nothing to worry above about and I will even occasionally drain some of my skimate back into sump if I feel my nutrients are low.

A lot of folks with skimmers let it overflow back into their tank rather than into a container. Think of it like a safety net. If you let it drain into a container and that happened it would overflow the container and then cause a minor spill, flood, and salinity change due to top off water being used when it shouldn't.

So yeah - back into the tank isn't a bad thing at all. Skimmer will just pull it back out

Throw sock in the machine and place back in tank when washed- No bleach - Just warm water wash.
