Did I just ruin my heater?

I have a 2.5g mixing tank with a heater. Haven’t had to do water changes so I have been letting water evaporate from the mixing tank. Long story short, half of my heater became dry and started making a sizzling noise. Should I just throw it out?

Yes, better safe than sorry for an inexpensive part of the hobby!

I figured as much. I’m just happy it didn’t crack in half and I didn’t stick my hand in and get a nice jolt
