My plan is a mixed reef that’s LPS dominant. I went the the best LFS around and they sold me an Eibli Angel. He’s beautiful but after reading(which I should have done first) it seems like he’s the wrong fish for my tank. Did I buy the wrong fish? They said he’d be fine but I’ve got a feeling he won’t. My 2 year old son already named him, T. That’s pronounced Tah like the sound the letter T makes, ha!

Hi, why is the reason that you believe he will not be suitable for your tank?

Depends on what corals and inverts you plan on keeping. I have had a coral beauty and flame angel and they never bothered any of my corals or snails. If you do plan on keeping it i would suggest feeding meaty foods just to be on the safe side.

Beautiful fish.
Dwarf angels are always a gamble.
Some leave all corals alone, others are constantly nipping.
Even within the same species.
I had a Coral Beauty that I had to take back because it was constantly picking at LPS and clams.
I have a different one in another tank that never bothers any corals at all.

I think he’s going to end up eating all of the LPS’.
I had a similar angel. - it depends. In my case it was the flat corals - like scolys - and it was only one - they are individual. I did not see it as an "LPS mower downer". Hope it works out ok. (My guess is that it may very well)

I would keep it and stick some corals in your quarantine tank with it and see if its gonna be a problem or not. If it goes right for the corals relentlessly then it will be much easier to catch, if it ignores them then it will work out fine in the dt. I have a Clown, Sargassum and Assasi triggers in my dt stocked full of all kinds of corals and have no issues with the triggers munching corals.

As others have said, it could go either way. Unfortunately eibli angels are a little less safe than the average angel. And there are several LPS corals which, if an angel is going to pick, are likely to be eaten (acans, scolys, open brains, etc). That said, it’s not a great choice. But you might just wait and see, it could go either way. Or, if you really like the fish, you can choose your corals around your fish, instead of the other way around. It’s unlikely to decimate everything.

It’s a gamble. One I wouldn’t take. I once bought a $45 fish after getting bad advise at LFS and, after 2 days of watching it terrified and starving, and doing actual research, I took a hit and returned it to a more responsible LFS after being assured it would be rehabilitated before being sold. It was unfortunately sold the next day which I found infuriating and have since stopped going there too. But we digress. Do what you feel is best. Some ppl have success. Others have success for a while and wake up one day to carnage. If you do choose to take the gamble, make sure it is always well fed. Good luck

Eibli aren't the safest angel in a reef but they are by far not the worst either. Personally I see the fact it's your first fish as the biggest problem. If you had a full blown mature reef and added it then you'd have a greater chance of success because it would have more choice of natural foods, you wouldn't be adding loads of new corals that it would investigate and any nipping would likely be wider spread doing less damage. Some angels can also be territorial, so it depends what other fish you are planning.

Definitely a crap shoot! I got extremely lucky when I had my 150 g setup. I had a coral beauty, a lemon peel, and a flame angel! I fed a variety of foods to the tank. For the most part they left my corals alone. Every now and again I would see a slight nip. But nothing serious.

I have the same 3 angels with the same results. One thing I noticed is that if I buy Corals with heavy green color that attracts them more than the other colors.
