So I attempted to drill my 40b this afternoon and while the initial drilling went fine, the discs didn't come out clean and kind of chipped around the edge of the holes. Also I noticed a scratch or crack on the bottom of the tank (of course after I drilled it and can't return it), its like the width of a hair thoughts on if its going to be an issue?

The chips on the hole is fine, the bulkhead will take care of that provided that it covers them.

I can’t tell if that’s a crack or a scratch. If it’s a scratch it’s not an issue. If it’s a crack it’s done for.

That would scare me. Glass isn't forgiving , the chips are no big deal and you're bulk head will cover them but a crack no matter how big will run unless its from one edge to another in which case it will just break off. I'm sorry

If it’s a petco tank then good chance that crack/scratch is a string of silicone. I had a scare when I filled my petco 10g and thought it cracked but it was just a stray silicone string.

Trying to get a better picture, using my macro lens lol

Lol it is and looking at the pic I just took, I think you might be right (well I hope you are). Is there a way to know for sure? Use a razor blade to see if I can scrape it off?

You can do that or you could just feel it. Run your fingernail across it and if it hits something, assume its' silicone. I would still scrape it off though.

It will come off with your finger nail if it’s silicone *fingers crossed*!!

Ran my fingernail across it and was definitely raised, took a blade and scraped it some. Didn't come off all the way but could tell it was not as raised as it was initially. 99% sure that it is just silicone! :D

That does not look like a crack .... too straight. A little scalloping on the back side of a ground hole is fine. More than a few of mine look like that. One way to avoid that is to put a piece of plywood on the back side.

Thats good to know for future reference!
