Did my cardinal eat one of my hermit crabs? What is this red legs hanging out of his mouth ? I thought they were friendly and is he gonna choke? Lol

Maybe he ate the molt from the hermit crab? That's crazy if he actually ate the hermit crab. Going to have to change their designation to "reef safe with caution" now.

Well that looks like an actual hermit crab, not the molt. I cant imagine he plucked him from the shell. I'm thinking the hermit was already dead when he grabbed it.

I know it’s an old thread, but thought I would share. My Banggai was swimming above my hermit crab and then nipped at him. Hermit crab pulled into his shell. The banggai wait for him to come back out and bit at his legs! I manual stopped the situation. I see the banngai hovering over the hermits from time to time, but have not seen him attack any again.

Banggais are mean little suckers. I won’t keep them anymore. I had three and one of them decided to go rogue and started to kill the others and then became a terror against other small fish. Never again.

My Bangaii will chase other fish in their size range ie: my leopard wrasse in particular. I think it’s funny that my Hectors goby which is the smallest is completely ignored even though it’s been hanging in lower mid strata
