Did you treat or did you feed?

Scenario: Ich outbreak occurs in your DT. Did you treat or feed to battle ich in display with a SUCCESSFUL outcome?

Do not vote if your story was a failure. Vote only if the outcome was a success. Treating means anything other than proper feeding such as copper, formuline, hyposalinity, etc.

I have 120+ fish. I have an Achilles tang and any day of the week there is a 50/50 chance he will have ich spots on him. And then the same fish can look perfect the next day.

He's been that way for the past 18 months. Everyone else looks fine.

Had ich in my DT because I didn't QT. Took all 15 fish out and put into two separate QT tanks and treated all with copper. Left the DT fallow for 8 weeks to kill all the ich in there. Now I QT every fish that comes in (prophylactically treat some, mainly tangs) and have not had ich since, including on my Achilles. I'm of the belief that ich is NOT present in every system and you CAN take measure to make sure it is not in yours

I QT any fish coming into my DT for at least a month. if there are no signs of anything wrong then they'll go into my DT. But my first encounter with ICH i had to QT all my fish and did a Hyposalinity treatment. worked great!

Understood. But, when you QT your new fish by acclimating properly chances are the fish is not going to stress out. If it doesn't stress out for a month during QT then it probably won't show ich. But what if it does have ich but simply doesn't show it due to no stress?

I used to put my fish right into the display. I had a huge ich outbreak and huge amount of fish loss. I left the display fallow for months to kill ich, not sure of exact time but it's been at least 9 weeks. And I now quarantine every fish with copper for a month and quarantine all new inverts and coral in a separate tank for a month. I actually don't have any fish in the display yet. I will be adding my first fish back to the display the 1st of October. So I can't say if it works or not yet, but I can say everything in quarantine now is super healthy.

Hyposalinity will kill the ich, thus free of ich on fish.

All my fish were "observed", all looked healthy. 3 months after the last "observed" healthy fish was introduced, Ich started to show up in various fish. Observation alone not a guarantee. I learned that the hard way. I tried feeding, Rid_Ich, Kick-Ich, garlic, cleaner shrimp, and all kinds of "reef safe" methods. They do not work. Learned that the hard way, too. No fish died, but Ich spots would randomly show on random fish for several days, then disappear only to show up again. 11 fish went into QT and treated with hyposalinity, DT was fishless for 8 weeks. Worked!! So, I voted treated.

I have 18 fish in my 210 and 3 in the 30G frag tank on the same system. My Kole tang has ich for the second time in the last six months. I feed and try to not stress the fish when I see an outbreak. In my opinion, breaking out a net only makes matters worse.
