I will be purchasing a used led light for my 18 gal bow my classroom. I am leaning towards a kessil 160 or AI Prime. I see primes come in HD and non-hd versions.

I am curious what the difference is between the two?

I have the Kessil 160 and the AI Prime HD
The difference is the Kessil does not need a controller, it is very easy to tell exactly where you are at, turn the knobs for your preference. There is lots of skimmer, but I like the color blending of the AI Prime HD looks much better. The Kessil is a very wide projection of light the AI Prime is not.
The AI prime needs a controller IE has too. Using with my non updated Samsung S-3 it is a pain in the butt to program, I really do not know where I am with this light, yeah I am not tech savvy, I've had it at 100% over a QT and caused a massive algae bloom so bad it killed the Aptisa LOL.

Get the HD model if you do because you can copy the AB+ exactly and that is a proven spectrum that works.

Hi there,
Can I jump in with additional questions please.
1. I have several Prime lights but dont know how to tell if they are the HD version or not. Does anyone know?
2. BlueSpot; when you refer to the AB+, I guess you are talking about a downloadable preset? Where is it available and would it suit Hydra 26's for an RS650Max?
Thanks
Scott

A Prime HD will give you the ability to go over 100% intensity on any given LED spectrum, a non HD will not. If you go into settings and adjust your lighting if any of the bars Will go over 100% if the others are less than 100% than you have an HD model.

thanks Josh. Just be sure as your 2 comments seem to contradict each other.
If the bars go above 100% its a hd, if they only go to 100% they are not a hd?

That's correct, here's a picture of my HD model, as you can see my violet spectrum is set to 116% this is not something you can do with the non HD version. Oh and to clarify what I had said earlier, in order to go over 100% with the HD model on certain LEDS you need to go less than 100% with another LED.

Apologies for jumping on this post but my prime goes over 100% so as you say it’s a HD model. Only thing is I don’t get the extra violet/purple colours leading me to wonder have I purchased the freshwater model? Will this still be ok for my corals?

Hi everyone I just got into this discussion with a friend and if you look under the light where the serial number is you will fine that the HD ones have HD and the none HD won’t
