Different approach of using Lanthanum Chloride

Well I do realise that using lacl should be with caution . Here is my idea to avoid DT contamination - empty skimmer cup / put daily dose of lacl/then set skimmer to wet skimming . Dirty water will pass , overflow to cup , forming LaPO4 which will stay on cup bottom and po4 free water will overflow back to tank . After few hrs precipitated po4 can be disposed . Any thoughts appreciated ;)

That’s basically how I’ve used it. I deposit drops near the skimmer intake and let it do the work.
 
Not sure skimmer cup overflowing will capture the LaPO4 particulate any better than dropping into overflow or that 10 micron sock (that I don't have either - I mean who does?) or just putting into the skimmer section.

I was reading some today, got myself worried because I'm using Phosphate Rx and trying to figure good dosing routine, then read myself out of worrying because no one has found any consistent bad issues with Lanthanum, not like aluminum and other PO4 binding media. I'd probably worry more about the Alk reduction (which I'm not).

First used, I dropped into my sock holder with fine sponge (only time I used sponge or sock), then saw Melev's videos and just started dropping into skimmer section with no sock/sponge. Now I think I may just drop down overflow so it can see a lot a volume, bind phosphate
 
observe how fishes (especially tangas) breath - Lacl may stuck in gills of fish (my yellow tang react first to Lacl) :( Next you should reduce PO4 very slowly to avoid SPS STN. About dosing in skimmer intake - in my experience ventury become clogged very easily + i'm not sure you use full potential of Lacl i.e. not enough contact time for reaction ...but this just my opinion :)

Ive been using the Blue Life Phosphate Rx droplets product that ppl give high ratings to.

I drop 25 droplets every Sunday night in a 220 total water vol system ....to maintain low PO4 bc I feed my fish raw grocery store seafood deli food that has PO4 in it.

I dose the 25 droplets directly in the sump....BUT use a 5micron sock to catch lanthanum within 24hrs of the Return running.

Within 12hrs tank is back clear.

I know I'm not getting all the Lanthanum out... but I see no reason to. 2x a year a do a MASSIVE 50% WC just to hit the reset button.

I've seen ZERO effects on all my Tangs. Zero effects on zoas, palys, snails, hermits in 6mos

Maybe it's bc a have a lrg 220g water volume..idk (?)

I dont do clams and I know free form lanthanum will wipe out clams.

Since I'm dosing such a small amt weekly I believe the effect of having an Peroidic Chart element METAL just FREAKS OUT everyone bc....

Metal in tank = B A D

ICP results are the same way....any metal in the tank is "the sky is falling"

Main problem with amount calculation is that rocks and sand released po4
I’ve used this calculator for a long time and it’s very accurate.
