There is one lone different color Zoa in this colony. There was 2, but one seems to be smothered out or gone?

If it’s two types, should I try to separate it to grow a 2nd colony?

I have a similar frag. Mine started green too but ended up turning red. I can't tell if it's a watermelon zoa or eagle eyes....

It's very common for multiple colors of zoanthids to pop up in these zoanthids, with several different names.
Here is a picture I had from my tank a while back that started out as all Radioactive Dragon Eyes and others showed up.

Wow really? How cool. Are they like grafted together or something? How interesting.

Would it be a good or bad idea for me to cut off the one polyp and try to propagate it? It had 2 of these heads and now I only see 1. It seems like maybe they’re being smothered out?

These 2 color morfs are fairly common together. I've even seen Green Bay Packers show up in Eagle Eye colonies ( the reddish/orange color ones).

honestly, I would just let them grow. No sense in risking loosing any. If you like one over the other more, they are both fairly common and inexpensive usually.

I was thinking the red ones were "whammin watermelon". I got a radioactive dragon eye frag from Cultivated Reef that had one or two like this that never took off.

I remember back a few years ago when they were all ( this basic color morf) called Eagle Eyes. Then I saw discussions on this colony looked better than that colony so it needed a new name low and behold a higher price!!
I think that is the real reason and debate on the differences.
