A couple weeks back I picked up a goby in a trade. I was told that it was two anthias but one of the two turned out to be some type of sand goby. I was not thrilled about it but accepted it. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise.I already own a yellow watchman goby who has been uncomfortable in my system since he arrived. Always sat in a hole on the very side of the rock work and didn't do very much other than sit there. Occasionally he would take a trip down the overflow and get stuck in my skimmer somehow. Kind of amazing feat actually. This goby that I got is twice the size of my watchman or more. It immediately took up residence in the center of my tank on the bottom. Within a day my yellow watchman was sitting with it and has not separated sense. They are always within 4 inches of each
other and my Watchman seems so much happier bouncing around and cleaning sand and doing what gobies do. This new one is a pale white with blue speckles all over it I was thinking maybe a diamond goby but I'm really not sure. Definitely different breeds.. Is it odd for two different type of fish to pair up like this?

I would need a better look to be sure but I think you accidentally got your goby a lady friend. Mature females are not yellow but a whitish grey.

That would be awesome! They do look very similar except the color difference And size

Yea not sure why the females do that as not all will change color but it is startling when they do lol

Here are a couple pictures of it in the better lighting

I have two yellow watchman of very different size that SHARE a burrow. Both yellow. Not sure if that means they're the same sex I'm no goby guru but this happened by accident I thought the one I had died. It was apparently my sand sifter.

The sand sifter I have now gets along fine with them but I wouldn't call them friends

I have two YWG in my tank. I had one in my 75 and the other in a 10. When I set up the 120, I closed down the other tanks and moved everything into the new one. I wasn't sure what to expect with the gobies, but they immediately found each other and moved into the same hole. They've been inseparable every since.

Nice gobies! Also nice Red Serpent starfish! Was that a Green spotted Mandarin I spotted in the back as well?

Thankyou so much!! :-D:-D nah its one of the blues. My 40b is a little overstocked. Manderins, flame angel, 6 line, sprigeri dottyback, bangai cardinal, the two watchman gobies, pair of occelarisand an anthia. 2 large serpents, a brittle, fire and skunk shrimps, 2emeralds, hermits and snails of various types and a crazy amount of coral and nems. Lol even I'm like "really man" . But my 30 fuge keeps it in line. You cant look anywhere without seeing 5+ different things in one spot. I'm horrible

Hey, I just wish my big-daddy was up and going! That's a nice list. I love Mandarins! I'm particularly fond of the red serpent starfish and the red dragonette. Can't wait to see those fellas cruising my tank!

Lil update. The small yellow watchman in the vid has completely changed. I thought the larger one was white cuz it was female. But look at my lil yellow watchman now!! Yes its the same fish.
