I found this to be strange, and was hoping that someone could explain why or how this may be possible.

I just tested the salt levels in my DT. 1.026
I headed downstairs to put the refractometer away. My fish room is downstairs along with my sump and refugium.
I decided that I would check the salt in my fuge just for the heck of it. 1.022
I was curious, so I checked in my sump as well. 1.023

I rechecked all 3 locations and got the exact same results. How is it that the salt content of my water is different at these 3 points which are all connected on one loop?

Should I be concerned? Is all good considering? Has anyone else experienced this?

Two things. First I’m guessing downstairs you mean basement so guessing temperature would be a factor. Measuring them with different ambient temps would mess with the reading. Secondly, we use hobby grade testing equipment. There will always be some variations.

A guess: the display tank is warmer than the sump. So you have evaporation. This makes water more dense, causing the heavier water to stay below your returns. Point a power head downward in the DT and see if it changes. Plus I’m guessing you add water in your sump area....l
