From my understand tabletop acropora are one of the hardest to keep. And millepora are one of the easiest. Where do things like digitate, elkhorn, staghorn, bushy etc. lay?

I've been looking for some answers to guide my purchases. But no luck so far, so I thought I'd ask...

I've heard things said like "An experienced SPS collector can look at a piece and tell if it can be kept successfully, etc" Are there things you'd look for other than the growth pattern? Like branch thickness? I've heard thick branch acropora are harder to keep? Or color, are certain colors harder to keep?

Thank you for your input.

I will say there is leeway. I just caused an ammonia spike for an absolutely stupid reason and an ugly thick branching, chunker, soft acro frag survived when even every monti (and there were over 10) in my tank died. About 10 acro colonies died too, so take it with a grain of salt.

The surviver was from WWC btw

Edit: this is now my favorite frag, and I hope to keep a colony of this for years to come. It holds some value after the lesson i learned

Looks like a garf bonsai, very hardy.

I wouldn’t call millepora one of the easiest. They are more difficult. Your easy ones are generally tenuis, staghorn, tortuosa, etc.

I would totally agree with you, I've been keeping sps for years and until recently milli's have always been tough. I would say torts are a great starter sps, as well as stags too.

how can you tell the difference in some like torts and tenius, i can tell the difference in millis obviously

Where can I find a listing of each acro and a picture, so I can Learn the differences. Hard for me to tell without seeing a big colony
