Differing levels in test syringe

Does it matter if the drawn titration solution isn't always the same amount? I'm using a salifert kit and in drawing to the 1ml mark on the syringe, sometimes the solution will be at .8 and sometimes at .82. I'm drawing from the bottom each time, so I'm not entirely sure why there is a difference.

From my experience as long as its .8 or more, you're fine. Anything lower then that and you'll run out of solution before you empty the syringe.

I'm not quite sure how this is possible if the plunger was bottomed out when you began to draw in solution?
 
It should be fine as long as you always start with the plunger at 1.00, since you are measuring the amount used relative to that. I have seen small variations in the amount of actual liquid drawn into the syringe too and always assumed it just depended on e.g. how far the plastic tip was stuck onto the syringe since that would affect how much extra air volume was there.

It has nothing to do with they syringe but with the fitting you push on the syringe, sometimes it's 8.0 sometimes its 8.1 or 8.2, it'll vary depended on how far on you pushed the fitting on the syringe. If its not pushed up all the way it'll be closer to 8, if you push it on all the way up it'll be closer to 8.2

I was referring to running out of solution before the plunger had bottomed back out.

Gotchya, one example would be if you drew in the solution and then put the end fitting on, or if you put the end fitting on, drew in the solution, and then adjusted the end fitting on more. In both instances you could potentially run out of solution before the syringe was bottomed out.

No, the fluid level doesn’t matter. It may vary with how hard you push on the tip (if using one) but that does not change the answer.

Correct, that was the point I was trying to get across :D
