Thanks for the update..dang three years!! Well I guess that answered my question that they are going under as no one ever posted any thing about it..i was thinking about getting a reef keeper light for my first controller plus I have seen a few for sale on here for pretty cheap...it be going on a 24g so nothing crazy will be running off of it but now makes me think I should just save for an apex..not sure if it be worth it to get an apex on a small tank as in no time will I be able to upgrade to a large tank..I see quite a few mixed reviews with reef keepers
 
I don't think they are going under. I think they may be dropping the Archon and RKE due to low sales and keeping the RKL. I head that second hand and not from them.
 
It’s a good product I don’t understand why they are running it into the ground. Surely someone or some company would be willing to buy it and invest in it.

They lost support when they wouldn’t do software for a Mac. That’s when I decided to sell mine. No cloud based programming hurt them as well.

Time to buy an apex.

Ya that’s what really has me on the fence...I’m gonna go on holiday in a few months and I know my tank is fine and I don’t have to worry about it with no controller...but I just wanted that extra piece of mind having controller as a secondary back up and can get check ups from it...I just can’t justify myself on getting an apex for so much on just a 24g
 
And some people who are selling there’s the older models still want 200-400 dollars

Speaking with their tech guys (who are awesome btw) i got impression that they wouldnt be in this line business much longer.

This stinks. I had hoped that someone would buy them out. The hobby needs Reefkeeper for those of us that don't/can't buy an Apex.
 
They just didn’t have the ability or support to keep pace with the changes Apex made and lost marketshare fast. And with Apex’s affiliation with other major players in this hobby in terms of product compatibility it would be difficult for anyone to take over and make it a viable company.

Guess I went the wrong way on this. I'd _love_ to by an Achron base, use it with my existing PB4's, (provided I can get the one repaired), and have wifi access to my controller. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that it's ever going to happen.

I really hate to spend the money on replacing what I have with an Apex... and if I'm gonna do that, I suppose I should be looking at the 'new' apex, not the classic. $800. Quite a hit, over a failed PB4 unit.

Are you sure it is a bad PB4? You can get another PB4.

Am I sure? No... but since I can't contact support, I'm not sure what I can do about it. Another PB4... you mean buy one? This one is under a year old.. I'm not throwing more money into this hole, especially if I can't get any support.

I'll explain the problem... Wired like this: Base RKL unit to (bad) PB4, to (good) PB4, to temp probe. Pretty simple setup. Worked great for 6 months.

A couple months ago, I was watching TV, and noted that (A) it's after 10pm, and (B) my main lights were still on. Shouldn't happen. Went and looked, the 'link' light on the first PB4 was out. 2nd PB4 looked fine, even though it's comm cable goes through the PB4 that wasn't talking. Temp probe, at the end of the line, was working fine. Unfortunately, my heater, one of those ti tubes without a thermostat, was plugged into the 1st PB4, along with my lights. It, like the lights, was stuck on. Temp in the tank was 4 degrees above setpoint. Luckily, I caught it before it did any major damage.

I toggled the rocker switch on the failed PB4, and it started working again. I changed the settings on the heater, so that it would default to off, in case the unit failed again... and it has. Irregularly, it just looses communication. I reset it, it's fine for a few days, even a week, and then it fails again. The 2nd PB4 has not failed. I inspected cables and connections, there's no corrosion, etc. All bright and shiny. Units are securely mounted, out of range of drips or splashes. Entire system was purchased new from BRS in June of last year.

I explained all this in an email to DA support... which was returned as undeliverable.
 
@Greybeard you might try resetting the unit if all else fails. I had an issue with mine and did this and fixed it.
Are you talking about a interrupted update? That might work but it changes the serial number and the RKL will see it as a new module added to the system.
 
The moment they dont support iphone app, then I know something is in trouble... They refuse to work on or release an mobile app to support the controller. What's the point of monitor if you cant use a mobile app...
 
They have never had an app for either android or iPhone. Those were third party and not DA apps.
 
Recently I had a problem with my unit that showed a display Error and lost the connection to the modules and PC4s. I made contact with the technical support of the DA by email and as soon as they answered they gave me attention until solve my case. I'm in Brazil and I had to send my Unit to them and at the same day they received started the reprogramming. At that moment the Unit is coming back to me reprogrammed and working. What I have to say is that I am very satisfied with the way I was served, even though I know that the company is experiencing difficulties, I do not think of change to another controller.
