dilema with the tank

A few years back kent marine issued a recall on their carbon. Tear off the floss covering your carbon insert for your biocube and throw out the carbon, buy new floss big roll is 5 bucks, and buy some activated carbon from another manufacturer ( kent). . and buy a cheap bag of elastic bands.. I recommend Kent carbon because as history demonstrates they clearly keep a close eye on the purity of their carbon. This would be a first step for me ... not only will you save a lot of money BUT you will eliminate a possible (sometimes overlooked) possible source of contamination.

Next I would empty the tank, clean it and throw out the sand. Buy new sand. If you bought the tank used and know the previous owner used it for freshwater buy a copper remover media bag of some kind and insert that right away also. Copper can be absorbed and held by silicone.

I had no idea good info but wouldnt copper also kill the inverts? I wonder if the OP is seeing that as well.

good point bout your invverts..I forgot to mention one other thing/I would change my water source for a few months and perform an immediate water change WITH the new water source.

I dont know which ones would react first to copper but my guess is the corals would because of the zooanthellae which would be affected adversely. And since the populations would decline this would in turn affect the corals ability to feed. Might be a good idea to feed your tank though, starving the corals wont benefit them any either.

heres an update. some of the zoas look like they might be bouncin back. its really the bounce mushroom thats realllllyyyyyy ticked still. its hard to see in the pix but it looks like he has very small white feelers coming out of him. im going to get chemipure soon. should i move him to a shaded area?

When I pulled a shroom off a rock once, he had white thread like stuff on his foot.

heres an update. i put the chemipure in the back of the filter and my corals are looking better so im guessing there was some type of toxin in the water. smh instill have no idea what it is or how it got there but ill just continue to do water changes and let the chemipure do its work. is there any negative effects of chemipure from a nutrient standpoint? ill get my water tested later to see how the levels look as of today.
