I have a 20 gallon tank. First tank. I'm just trying to get started in the reef hobby. Naturally for a small tank I'm not looking to break the bank on the lighting. With the help of some of you users in an earlier thread I've been able to do a pretty good job pricing my options, but I am still left with a question: What's the big bonus of having a dimmer?
If they're both pumping out 120w on full blast, and I'm not home all day to tinker with the settings during troughout the day, why spend the extra 50 bucks or so for one that's dimmable? Especially if I'm just starting out and don't expect to have any particularly sensitive species in the system any time soon.
...I'm sure there's a logical explanation.
