My Ding Dangs have not opened up in 2 weeks now. Everything else is the tank is doing great. I have other PE that are fine. Anything I can do to get them to open? I have not moved them either. They are half way up the tank and in good flow.

I am not sure what is going on. I would suggest that you check our parameters. Whenever my palys/zoas don't open for a little while, I check my parameters, then I may dip them in TMPCC. Don't have much logic behind that other than bugs-- but I never get bgs out of the dipping. Good luck-- I like my ding dangs.

My Ding Dangs have been in my tank (along with other Hawaiin palys) for about 5-6 months now. They have been very eratic, staying closed for days at a time, then opening. they are still not growing well, but i recently moved the frags into a higher flow area, on a frag rack (about 3-4 weeks ago), and now the Ding dangs finally sprouted a baby and the Purple Rains (as they were named) are doing much better. They are in slightly lower light as well.

Not sure why, but as I said, they seem to be much better now.

Check your alk when I had my large zoa collection they would close for a time and I would find my alk had dropped. I also get that with my rics as well.....As for Ding Dangs I have mine in high light and high flow and they are as big if not bigger then a quarter. I have only had them 1 1/2 months(started with 2) and now have 6 polyps and 3 new ones coming......

Iodine. My zoos/palys will do this from time to time. It's how I know when it's time to dose more Iodine.

Just a couple questions becuase I have tried many different things when fragging Ding Dangs. Ahyhow, I know that they have been in your tank for several months but are the polyps mounted to a frag plug? If so does it seems as if a lot of glue was used to mount the polyps?

I had an issue (I thought) with some Ding Dangs I got months ago. They looked good for a couple weeks after I got them then started freaking out. I put mine shaded in higher flow and they came around after a few more weeks. Not really a fast grower for me so far, but among my favorites.

I put mine in med flow/high light and had crazy growth for awhile then really quickly they shrunk down and turned translucent, their making a slow recovery in lower light.

I have the same problem. This is what they look like on a good day. I've had them everywhere in my tank and can't make them happy. When I first got them they were bigger than my duncans.

Bagged87blayzer- Did yours have that purple stuff is growing on them? My zoas get that stuff on them before they melt.

Teddy those look seriously bleached......Probably why they don't look good all the time might want to try and reduce the light they are getting by moving them to a area the isn't getting as much light. Or they can be bleached in the reverse as well where they need more light and not getting enough......Either way they shouldn't be white/clear with very little color in the tissue.

Mine were the same way for a while....

after shading them a little under the top rack and getting more flow to them, they colored right up. Takes a few weeks though.

wow, they look exactly the same. I'm moving them right now.

wow, they instantly look a lot happier. Let's hope they make a full recovery. Thanks azurel and grouper.

Just wondering if for some reason you all have the same problem with PPE's and RPE's/ I have them and they still have color but they dont open. i have them in the shade right now, but all the other PE's I have are doing fine.

I think it's just how the tank is..hard to explain. A buddy of mine gave me a 3 polyp frag of PPE 'cause he couldn't find their happy spot. I tossed them on my rack and now there is 6 polyps wide open all day. ....go figure.
