A month ago my friend fed my tank while I went on vacation. Came home to my sand bed covered in brown . Glass was really dirty and my in tank pump had it on it as well. I’ve manually removed as much as I can every week but seems to slowly return. It’s not a huge problem but can’t seem to get rid of it!! Can someone help me out on whAt to do?? I’ve been told differently by couple people. I cut down on feeding corals and fish.

What I’ve read is that diatoms isn’t slimy. When I scrap this off the glass and back of tank it’s definitely slimy.

Best way to know for sure what it is exactly, a microscope. AmScope has nice ones

I think I have some posts about this somewhere. bought cheap microscope and pulled some. If they are moving around under scope like little sperm, it is probably dinos. If they go away at night, it's prob dinos.

I got rid of mine with the big green machine (uv) and hydrogen peroxide dosing.

What do you mean if they go away at night it’s Dino? Like the algae goes away when lights are off? It’s still there at night. But seems to be growing mostly in lighted spots. It’s not covering my Live rock really just my sand bed

Not the sharpest photos, but it doesn't look like dinos to me.

Soon as lights go off I’ll get better pictures. My iPhone is horrible with pictures under blue light

Yeah, doesn't look like dinos to me either. One simple test is to syphon some up into a bucket and see if they reconstitute shapes within a few minutes.

Nice corals btw.

So it should clump back together if it is or isn’t Dino
