Yea water changes won’t do anything in this case it’s most likely and absence of nutrients rather than excessive nutrients

Grr the tank is still new. I hate these things had a problem with them before years ago. Was one of the reasons I avid bathed my old rock before using it again.

Yea been dealing with them for 5 months myself finally with the addition of a UV and nitrate and phosphate dosing they are starting to disappear

Uv huh. I was hoping I could get rid of them by natural means. I have fuge with chaeto in it. Waiting on the rest of the stuff I need to finish the light for it. I would like to starve them out. I’m gonna cut back my lights by a couple hours as well for now

This is just my experience, I’m not saying get a uv at all. I’ve owned around 7 different saltwater aquariums in the last 16 years and even though they were all mostly ran the same way with the same equipment I’ve gotten a mixed bag so to speak when it comes to the outcome of each system. I read through about 400 entries of the dinoflagellate thread on this forum before making a decision on my course of action. All i will say is good luck. I’ve never had them up until now, but on the same token I’ve never tried to drive the nutrients so low in any other system either.
