Are these Dino’s or do I just need more sand sifters? I sift it, and they are back the next day.

phosphates .1 and nitrates 10-15.

One thing i would do is take the algae out completely. Sifting it keeps it in the sand

You think it’s algae?
Seems like some type of algae, but don’t take my word for it lol. Ill try to do some more research for you

Doesn't look like it, dinos is much darker and brown with a lot of bubbles both during the day and night. Looks like snot. That looks like normal algae and maybe diatoms which are a lighter brown/tan.

What is the Best way to get rid of diatoms?

If it’s a new tank, let them be. Diatoms feed off silicates. Regardless, just let your cuc handle them. Diatoms aren’t a big deal at all and it looks like you have a small case of them :)

I would try and decrease your nutrients a little though. I don’t mind higher nutrients and love them to kickstart the biodiversity hierarchy but those nitrates will cause some algae soon. Try to knock em down to 5 and some change with phosphates going no higher than where you’re at, and you’ll be in a good spot.

Thanks!

Tank is 14 months old. I will do more water changes and maybe carbon dose.

Do you have a fuge? A nice sized Chaeto ball would be in heaven and would drop that pretty quick to good levels.

I have a fuge and various size balls of chaeto.

this just started recently and the only thing I did deferent was change out my granular carbon.

At 14 months, those nitrate levels are alright tbh. Are there bubbles on the algae in the sand bed? Any strands? Or just the tannish film we see in the photo?

It looks green which is good. Maybe just film algae?

I’m curious what your advice is if there are some strands? I’m about 5 months in and I’ve been remarkably algae free aside from a quick and painless bloom of some brown spotting on sand and rocks a while ago. But now I’ve got something similar to OP coming on, brown on sand and a bit less on rock. A couple spots have ~1cm strands but most of it just looks like a brownish, slightly (if you look closely) fuzzy growth.

No bubbles and no stands. It looks brown to me under white light.

Any bubbles? And how brown are we talking?

Well it's for sure not dino at least. How long has it been going on? I'm no expert, you may want to call the reefsquad in here.

No bubbles or strands, just brownish film

one part is nitrates 5-10ppm
I have been dosing NoPoX but I don’t want to overdo it. I have 110 gallons and my nitrates are 10-15 with NoPox. I could add more but am afraid to add to much. Should I up the dose?
