I’ve posted a comment about this before. I have a slight or light, dinoflagellates in my tank. I’ve had this problem for several weeks. I could really use some help with this. it’s a 75 gallon tank that has been running for over two years.Mixed reef.I have been dosing NeoPhos and NeoNitro. I’ve been siphoning out the dinoflagellates with a turkey baster every day.I’ve increased feeding. I don’t do any water changes which is been about three weeks. I do not run a protein skimmer, or gfo. I am starting to see algae grow just a little. I did some research and one site tells you to increase nutrients while the other site tells you to decrease nutrients. Reading on the site so I’m not sure if I should add bacteria or what type or take away bacteria that’s the problem I’m having because it’s so confusing to me. I heard the name Randy Holmes... I thought that was a p... star. SORRY Then I was on the Algea Burn site and read how their phytoplankton can help outcompete dinoflagellates. PH-8.2 Am-0 Nitri-0 Nitra-5 Cal-450 Alk 8.2 mag 1560 Alk 8.1 salon 1.025 pho’s 0.01. I was told to dose Vibrant. And I was told not to. I was told to dose microbacter 7 . Please help.

Keep nutrients (nitrates and phosphate) up to encourage algae growth. Since you are starting to grow green algae your tank is likely on its way back. I would not dose vibrant or add phytoplankton. You can add microbacter but I don’t think it’s necessary. When your green algae becomes dominant, add a substantial cleanup crew. Have you ID’d them? A correctly sized and plumbed UV can help eradicate some types of dinos but not others. A decent microscope will aid in the ID process.

Never will you get a clear path on how to tackle this. Too many people have beat it their own way.

I would say.... keep nutrients higher, veggie clip a pinky pad in your DT. Maybe 2. Change them constantly. Change your socks daily at a minimum. Reduce water changes to bi-weekly or maybe every 3rd week. Reduce lights some, not completely. Be patient. Turkey baste rocks. Stir sand.

As far as dosing bacteria..... ehhhh. Maybe. I’m weird about that. Maybe look at waste away. I think there is some dino directions. Just stay on it. You will win. I wouldn’t dose vibrant. That’s just me though. I think that’s a short term win but can come at a price....maybe. Elbow grease and time.
