Hey guy's I've had a dino breakout in my 28g nano, and I posted and asked for help in my nano in 90 thread but no one replied :( lol so I thought I'd make it a seperate thread. Basically I left for the weekend and had a buddy of mine feed my fish, and when I came back boom some dino's had shown their presence. I've already looked around for answers, but thought I'd get the expert's (you guys) opinions. I've started a 48 hour blackout (24 hours through it already) and I went to my lfs and bout some chemipure elite to put in my empty filter stage. Should this take care of it?

Can you get a pic to make sure it's dinoflagellates? Is it possibly Cyanobacteria?

yup, here

Chemi pure will probably help along with water changing to help thin out the nutrients they are feeding on.

If things get out of hand there have been some reported success with dosing Peroxide to kill dinos, but I would be VERY careful about dosing peroxide and research thoroughly (I have not, so I'm not much help).

I started reading this thread but never finished, its about a member's tank and his dino eradication success: https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/re...gellates-my-experience-h2o2-reefing-tool.html

Looks like nothing major. I had that same slime in a frag tank I just set up. Looks like the rock needs to age more.

I fought dino's for almost a year in my mature SPS tank and it was a nightmare! They are small now but can get out of control if you are not careful. I was doing lots of water changes and it just made it worse. I later read an article in reef keeping mag online that something in new water from water changes actually helps them thrive. I finnally kicked them by stopping water changes for a few months and started dosing Micro Bactor 7 and Bio Fuel. I also blacked my tank out for 4 days.

Try doing a google search for the article I am referring to as it helped me out a lot.
Good Luck.
