Yes only on the sand, goes away at night. Not really stringyDoes it stay only in the sand? It looks like Amphidinium. There is a large thread somewhere that focuses strictly on this strain. Just search for Amphidinium in the title.
This particular strain is tough to beat but low on toxin and mucus so it doesn't really affect most other inhabitants. I'm currently fighting with it also.
Good luck!
Yeah I found a bunch of threads. Trying to decide my action plan. Always something in this hobby!Yup, sounds like it. Search that thread out.
The tanks been up and running for 2 years. As of yesterday. Nitrates are 5 (nyos) and phosphates are .04 (Hanna). I throw a couple bags of carbon in my sump return chamber changed monthly and also have a 57 watt aqua UV STERILIZER plumbed into my return pump.I should have asked... What is your phosphate and nitrate levels? Is it a newer tank?
It's always something![]()
Normal 3%Any special kind of peroxide?
ok, do I have to completely cover the tank with cardboard?Normal 3%

I read a post of yours on another thread that you continually dose peroxide? You said 2-3ml a day. How big is your system? And what type of animals are in your tank (fish corals, inverts). I have a spare doser head available. Should I continue dosing after this 5 day period?Normal 3%

Ok so I started today with a water change. New filter socks, Siphoned the sand and lowered my lights to 15 percent of only blues. I also dosed 15ml of Microbacter 7 (my system is 140 gallons). I attached a pic of my light schedule. T5’s are shut off for the 5 day period since I can’t control them only on or off. I dosed peroxide last night to get the ball rolling (also 15ml). I work nights so I dose when I get home at 0600.First- Check phosphates and nitrates to assure theyre not elevated.
Here is full program:
Prepare by starting with a water change and blow this stuff loose with a turkey baster and siphon up loose particles.
Turn lights off (at least white and run blue at 10-15%) for 5 days and at night dose 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons for all 5 nights. If you dont have light dependent coral- turn all lights off.
During the day dose 1ml of liquid bacteria (such as bacter 7) per 10 gallons.
Clean filters daily and DO NOT FEED CORAL FOODS OR ADD NOPOX as it is food for dinos.
Day 5,, you can start with blue lights - ramping up and work your white lights up slowly
I also have live phyto on hand. Should I keep dosing that? If so when?Normal 3%

Hold off on that until treatment is done. You will be amazed what the tank looks like at the end of this method.I also have live phyto on hand. Should I keep dosing that? If so when?
My only concern is that some of my SPS (acros) are coloring up and I don’t want the lowered lighting to affect them. It’s bad enough I have issues with other acros dying from the tips down. I don’t want my good ones dying over this lowered lighting.Hold off on that until treatment is done. You will be amazed what the tank looks like at the end of this method.
You can run blues at 15% and go 7 days insteadMy only concern is that some of my SPS (acros) are coloring up and I don’t want the lowered lighting to affect them. It’s bad enough I have issues with other acros dying from the tips down. I don’t want my good ones dying over this lowered lighting.
Good schedule and Peroxide safeThis is my schedule as of now. Does the peroxide affect any levels? As far as nitrates, phosphates and alkalinity? I’m pretty sure an alkalinity spike caused my issues to begin with. I would think lowered lighting would cause less alkalinity consumption.
