Hello,
probably diatom... particularly if your tank is less than 9 months.
It would be helpful if you give a bit more info regarding the tank.

my nitrates are at 0 (not sure what my phos is at) but I heard Dinos eat phosphates and nitrate, which would explain why they may be at 0? don’t diatoms thrive in high nitrates?

Hello,
Diatom are usually linked to silicate levels in the tank.
I run Zeovit with zero nitrate and phosphate (ICP) and I had lots of diatoms due to excess of Silicate (RODI problem)
How old is your tank?

In case you are interested, follow the thread explaining it.
Normally, it is easier to exclude or not the hypothesis of Diatoms... that’s the reason of my question.
Good luck

That is most likely diamtoms. Dino’s are stringy with bubbles all over and also form upright strings.

that’s what I was hoping. the tank it relatively new, only a few weeks old which would explain the silicates. I have relatively heavy stocking but my water changes have remained pristine.
