Like Bob Lauson, I added a UV sterilizer and my ostreopsis were gone in one day! I went with the Pentair Aquatics Smart UV 18 watt for a 45 gallon cube. It sits alongside my sump. No skimmer, no GFO, carbon, etc. just the UV did it!

I also did the vibrant, not sure if it helped. I bought some silica and was about to start that before it cleared up. What size tank? You might consider replacing the sand bed. Or just removing, rinsing and drying it before putting it back.

Another vote for increasing nitrates and phosphates. This too worked for me over UV sterilizer, Vibrant, Fauna Marin Dino X, and H202 dosing. I did all of the above and it wasn't until I increased nitrates and phosphates it knocked it back, probably because I I started to get hair algae which probably out competed it IMHO

Another vote from me. Like others I tried all of the other stuff before figuring out that the goal is not to kill the Dino, but to encourage other competitors to grow and displace the Dino. NO3 and PO4 itself does not kill the Dino. It is the hair and other macro algae that feed off of the NO3 and PO4 that out-compete the Dino. That is the true solution.

I used a 3 day blackout followed by a uv sterilizer and microbubble scrubbing as well as manually blowing them off. Took about 3 weeks total time. I’ve had to do this twice about a year apart.

I've been battling a mixture of cyanobacteria and dinos. I have been massively overfeeding, removed my Rowaphos and stopped doing water changes.
I have started getting algae growth on my overflow ( see pic) and it seems to be winning the war with the dinos. I also fit a 5 micron filter sock at night which seems to be pulling out less and less.
I still can't seem to raise my nitrates and phosphates but this might be my algae growth using it all up.

I had amphidinium. I fought them for about 5 months with increased nitrates and phosphates, dosed silicate, used vibrant, vacuumed constantly filtering through an 1 micro filter sock, added diversity. Nothing I tried worked so I got really fed up with it.

I took all the sand out put it in a brute container, took it outside and rinsed it with the water hose until it ran clear (about an hour), then pored Clorox it it and stirred the sand around multiple times. Rinsed the sand again to remove as much of the Clorox as possible, then layed the sand out on a tarp in the basement for a week to let it dry.

While the sand was out, I removed all the rock, cleaned each one individually rinsed them with clean salt water.

After a week of drying I put the sand back in and have not seen any sign of the dinos since. This was 4 months ago.

I lost one small frag of zoas through this process, but everything else seems to be thriving now (Including my new crop of GHA; but anything is better than dinos).

This process was not painless, but it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be either. If I get amphidinium again I'll go straight to this method and save myself the frustration and disappointment of all the other things I tried that didn't work for me.

Alright guys I could really use your help. I have a 90 gallon with a 20 gallon sump. I’m estimating with rocks I have a water volume of 85ish gallons.
I run triton method and about a 2-3 weeks ago I noticed some small stringy bubbles in my tank. I have had Dinos before and was able to get rid of them pretty easily. This time it is starting to take hold. I need some help!! My nutrients bottomed out a few weeks ago. My refugium is pretty good at stripping no3. I run rowa as well to keep my po4 under 0.05. Once I noticed my no3 at zero I started dosing potassium nitrate. As of now I’m still dosing the potassium nitrate and my no3 is right around 4-5 ppm. Po4 is 0.03 ppm as of this morning. I have been blowing my rocks off every day sometimes twice a day. My refugium is thriving and I have a very healthy pod population in the system. I pulled some zoas from my frag rack today to frag and I noticed a lot of pods in the zoas and even on the plugs. So I know I have a good population going. I’m just super worried about my SPS. I have a bunch and some are higher end. I don’t see a trace of Dino in my refugium only in the DT. I ordered some dr Tim’s bacteria this morning and it will be here tomorrow. I plan on adding this but I’m struggling to get some other algae in my DT to outcomepete the Dino’s. Any advice is welcome. TYIA

Have you considered dosing silicates to increase the Diatom population in order to out compete the Dino's? This is how I beat them.

My tank is a standard 120. I estimated the water volume at 100 gallons with sump. I dosed .3ml when lights went out for 4 days. Each day I had less and less dinos. After 3 days of dosing they were completely gone but I still dosed the 4 day to make sure. I've seen other dose a larger amount and have issues with fish. At my low dosage I saw no ill side affects. And actually my sps had better polyp extension.

Do you have a refugium? Did you notice pods death at all?

Wouldn’t this lower my nutrients? I have NoPox but am afraid it would drop my nutrients down...

Do you have a refugium? Did you notice pods death at all?

No fuge as I don't have issues with high nitrates or phosphates. As for pods I still found live ones in my filter socks every other day when I changed them out. I did dose a bottle of fritz #9 to the tank just to help with any biological die off .

I believe I was dosing 3ML per day for about a week. my sand bed started looking much worse, and i thought the dino's were exploding, but i took a sample and looked under the microscope and it turned out to be diatoms. In fact I could no longer find any dino's. I then stopped dosing the Sodium Silicate, and the diatoms went away in a few days after they consumed the silicates. I beg to differ. It is well known that vodka /vinegar dosing actually creates an environment where by which Dinoflaggellates can take over. In fact I attribute Vodka dosing as the sole reason for my original Dino infestation. I thought my normal levels of phosphates and Nitrates were too high so I Vodka dosed them down to nothing and Dino's exploded. This was with undetectable nutrients.

What is your tank volume?

It's an RS 750XXL so 200 gallons total, but with displacement probably around 170.

I'm tired of this dino. I'm fighting it for 4 months now.

I tried:

• UV (2x Jebao 55 watts)
• nitrate/phosphate dosing, My nitrate is around 6 and phosphate is 0.03. I'm trying to bring it up slowly.
• extra feedings,
• no filter socks
• I even took my skimmer offline.

They're still there. I did a 3 day blackout and it was gone but just to come back a week later.
I have a 220 and a 110 on the same sump. The 220 is a reef and the 110 are the fish I like that can't go in the reef; i.e., butterflies.
