dinoflaellate treatment

I battled this twice and won both. like you said, consistent high pH, I did my period of darkness for 7 days, hardly fed and only attinics for very short period to feed fish. NO water changes or additions via chemicals etc. you want to starve out the dino's as much as possible. If i find the write up on dinos' I'll send it to you.

i used coralife marine tank clarifier. this product worked wonders for me. and didn't see any stress on any of my mixed reef. look it up , it's a great way to battle it. lfs guy put me on to it. i didn't have to change light cycle or elevate my ph. cleared it right up in about 6 days. i also blasted it a little off the rocks and siphoned a little out before i started my cycle with it.

Please keep us posted on your progress with this product. Thanks. Al

My 2 cents.

+1 on the natural way to kill them, I know its hard and needs patience . I have been battling them for the past 2 months and seem to have them under control.

So far I have learnt that adding any additive only does a temporary fix and then it comes back again.

How have you been treating it?

Zero water changes
Reduced photo period ( if you have sps be careful, they will start to loose color, so you have to balance it carefuly)
biweekly 48 hr blackout period
regular removal ( sometimes daily)
everyday dusting it off from the corals (at its peak you may have to do it twice every day) -

Infact yesterday I did a 15% water change after 2 months, I am waiting to see how the dino respond to it.

Around the same time I also upgraded my skimmer, so not sure if there is skimmer influence as well.

I am not willing to do the ph spike, just not sure how the mixed reef and fishes would react.
