I have a fluval evo 13 gallon and recently have been struggling to keep my sand clear. Does this look like dinoflagellates to you? I’ve scooped it out a few times and syphon it up during my water changes, but it keeps coming back. I do a 20% weekly water change and have phosgaude. It’s only on the sand bed in this one area, not the rock. Additionally, I have what looks like cyano in my bottom right corner. I just bought a wave maker because I was told the variable current can help decrease cyano growth. Any tips???

More frequent water changes, turkey baster blasting of the sand and turn up powerheads to run full blast for awhile, change filter socks. Consider adding a CUC to address just the sand: sand sifting goby, sea cucumber, etc.

Get some copepods. They love diatoms. I have a bunch of pods. I raise them. I place my pod tanks in sunlight to increase diatoms and ise tap water to mix their water to increase growth even more. That’s a natural food for them, amongst many other things, but that’s a favorite. Just buy a bunch of copepods and start using Reverse osmosis/de-ionized water to mix your salt, not tap.

Looking back at your previous threads I saw that you are only using just RO water instead of RO/DI. That could be part of the problem.
